About the USCIS Adjudication Pause

Starting in late 2025, USCIS issued a series of policy memoranda placing holds on the final adjudication of immigration benefit applications, citing national security and public safety concerns.

December 2, 2025

Paused all pending asylum applications regardless of country, and froze benefit applications for nationals of high-risk countries identified under Presidential Proclamation 10949.

PM-602-0194

January 1, 2026

Expanded the hold to all pending benefit applications for nationals of countries listed in Presidential Proclamation 10998 — based on country of birth, citizenship, or Citizenship by Investment. Family-based cases are no longer automatically exempt. Also mandated a re-review of benefits approved since January 20, 2021.
